Meet Clara, the plant-lady behind the brand Cacticus, whose ethos is to bring joy, self-care, and more greenery into the world.

Cacticus was founded on the idea that plants can provide more than just a means of decorating your home. Clara Schamback strongly believes there is a correlation between taking care of a plant and self-care. Having made a big move into the city, she missed feeling connected to nature. She found herself constantly bringing home new plants to bring the outdoors into her indoor space.

As Clara describes, her lack of a green thumb caused most of her plants to live a very short and unfulfilling life. The only plant that survived in her care was a cactus she called Cacticus. The joy Cacticus brought her daily led her on her path to researching other plant varieties that required low maintenance in order to thrive.

As her collection grew, she continued to name each new plant, giving it a unique moniker as a good luck charm. With this newly established ritual, Clara realized her dedication to these plants and how this was impacting their vitality. Beyond this, she felt a significant shift in her own wellbeing.

Clara felt that there may be others out there who could benefit from this feeling and thus, the idea of Cacticus was born. Cacticus’ mission is for each and every one of their customers to find happiness in the practice of nurturing their new plant pal, while simultaneously reducing stress and boosting their mood. Clara first starts by hand-painting the plant’s concrete planter and filling it with a unique and resilient plant species. Each plant is given a name, a face, and a story to bring life and growth into your home.

When asked about the biggest challenges she’s had to overcome in being a small business owner, Clara says it was breaking out of her shell. As a self-described introvert, she remembers being overwhelmed while selling at markets and pop-up shops. Clara had to push herself out of her comfort zone, practicing her pitch, and learning how to sell her products. Embracing the uncomfortable, Clara has met some pretty amazing people who have taught her a lot about herself and her business along the way.

“If you have an idea, a project, or something you are passionate about, go for it. Don’t wait for it to be perfect because it never will be.”

Her biggest advice to female entrepreneurs: “If you have an idea, a project, or something you are passionate about, go for it. Don’t wait for it to be perfect because it never will be.” When Clara thinks about those first products she launched, she still can’t believe people bought them. It's been an incredibly rewarding journey for her so far and she looks forward to her continued growth as an entrepreneur. As she shares with us; “I wouldn’t be where I am today if I didn’t jump in and go for it.”

When it comes to starting your own business, Clara has shown us that having the perseverance to share a passion with the world is a great place to start!
