Founder Highlight: Pampas & Reed
For Alberta-based brand Pampas & Reed, inspiration comes directly from the beauty of the prairies where founder Tiffany Mah lives. Watching the grass waves on a windy day and admiring the vibrancy of the canola fields provides an appreciation for her natural surroundings.
Founded in August 2019, Pampas & Reed was born after Tiffany noticed a lack of natural body care brands. With many green products focusing on our faces, there was a void in the market for clean products for the rest of our bodies that Tiffany was eager to fill.
Tiffany has always operated on the notion that luxury shouldn’t just be in the packaging but rather in the ingredients and processes as well. Beyond this, she believes everyone deserves to indulge in luxurious self-care at attainable prices. Combining traditional herbal medicine with modern skincare ingredients, each of Pampas & Reed’s body and hair care products has been hand-blended to soothe the mind, body, and senses. The result? A line of all-natural body and hair care products that nourish the skin and the spirit.
Three main factors have always been at the center of Pampas & Reed’s DNA. Selecting organic ingredients where possible, working with local suppliers and choosing sustainable, repurposable packaging are their foundational pillars. Although not the path of lowest cost, Tiffany has thoughtfully made these choices in growing her grass-roots brand.
The biggest hurdle for Tiffany, as an entrepreneur, has been a lack of time. Working full-time, she has found it challenging to utilize her free time most efficiently. To help manage her schedule and focus on the brand during her days off, she has learned to plan her workday one day in advance. This involves checking her ingredients levels and planning her production to ensure she is not short on anything she needs. “The worst thing that can happen is working on an item and having to stop halfway because you're short on one ingredient.”
“When inspiration hits, act on it! Don't wait until it’s too late, even if it's something as simple as writing your idea down. You don't want to forget what could've been!”
Along with proper planning, she attributes much of her success to following her gut and listening to her intuition. This has allowed her to take risks necessary to build her brand. Her advice for up-and-coming entrepreneurs? “When inspiration hits, act on it! Don't wait until it’s too late, even if it's something as simple as writing your idea down. You don't want to forget what could've been!” Tiffany states, “If you do forget [an idea], then learn from it. Mistakes are the best way to grow and improve yourself and your business.”
Growing and improving are steps Tiffany aspires to continue to make. The goal she is currently working on; sharing natural luxury with the world. For her, it’s about the little things that get you to your greater goals!
